|SONIC DEATH MONKEY Soundtrack Reviews - Twilight
by Michael Collins
Bite the monkey
Time to look at the hit of moment, Twilight. Do we all need to rush out and get this soundtrack as everybody has been doing anyway?
Muse get things started with a distorted electro pop number that sounds like the Scissor Sisters in Marilyn Mansonís discard black leather corset. Thatís a good thing. Itís a catchy singalong chorus that will get the fang banger vampire fans onto the dance floor. Decode also have that overblown theatrical production with a sound thatís as big as a cathedral that their fans are so fond.
The soundtrack then settles down with, ĎFull Moon,í from The Black Ghosts which is just as well as I was beginning to grow bat wings and go batty on everybody. Itís a cool little track. Iíll have to investigate that band a little further. I guess thatís the reason you get on a soundtrack, other than the cash, that is.
I usually do my level best to avoid Linkin Park, and their contribution to this soundtrack, ĎLeave Out All The Rest,í doesnít change my mind. Itís not the worst thing theyíve done, but it might as well be for all I care.
Sounding very familiar to everything that has come before it on the soundtrack Mutemath have a go at, ĎSpotlight.í Earnest, energetic and even elusive (possibly) this is a track that has benefit with the remix treatment that it has had for this soundtrack.
Janeís Addiction and Porno For Pyros favourite Perry Farrell contributes with, ĎGo All The Way.í Really though, without his pals from his former bands thereís little for Mr Lollapalooza to offer her. It feels very much like heís going through the motions. Even the little rap in the middle from some girl doesnít save this song from moving to whatever-ville.
Collective Soul give an equally solid yet unremarkable contribution, just like everybody else on this soundtrack. Rob Pattinson and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (!) do provide a little variation and surprise, but itís too late for me to get impressed.
Maybe this soundtrack is not hitting the spot for me. Not awful, not great, not all that anything really. This soundtrack is passing me by with music that doesnít really move me or demand my attention. There are plenty of fans out there for this soundtrack, but I guess Iím not one of those who felt it necessary to rush out and get this soundtrack.
