Just got out of hte Green Hornet and I'm astounded Seth Rogen just grafts his generic stoner/slacker Everyslob character into. Christoph Walz gave a blah performance but his previous movie was incredible. Cameron Diaz is a blip but she's done much better is other movies. Edward James Olmos was Commander Adama! I haven't seen poor Jay Choum (Kato) in anything else.

My question is this - is this all Seth Rogen does? It's like watching Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrel, or Adam Sandler do their schtick over and over and over in every movie they do.

Who do you think plays the same character in every movie? And are you tired of it yet?

Rogen's got more range than you might think - I didn't like Observe and Report, but he's good in it and it's certainly a variation on his usual work, at the very least.

A lot of these guys have examples in their filmographies of being more versatile than they're given credit for, but the studios find them more valuable as brands than as guys who can play various roles. And, you know, that's not wholly a bad thing - a movie star with a known persona can bond with the audience quickly, with a comforting familiarity. It's a tool for actors and filmmakers.

I was simply astounded at the dynamite performance Josh Hartnett gave as the asshole Internet-company CEO in August. Prior to this, he always came off like he were performing in the school play, and I thought he had absolutely zero range. I love to be surprised at things like this.

Crispin Glover ~ Shy and awkwardly nerdy

Samuel L. Jackson ~ Tough asshole where every other word is "Mutha F***, or "White Man".

Bruce Campbell ~ Chiseled Ken Doll

Brittney Murphy ~ Especially in "Deadline" ~ Very dry and uninteresting

You'll definitely catch some hell for ragging on Campbell, who's largely respected by horror and cult-classic fans. I don't think he's much of an actor, but as performer I find him engaging. And in the awesome TV series Burn Notice, he shows some pretty deft comic timing.

As for Murphy, neither here nor there.

Hw was in Willard so I forgive him but he doesn't seem to specialize in oddball roles. Then again Google his David Letterman appearance to see why Smile.

Michael Cera owns "nerdy" now.

I watched the original interview - pretty bad. Even 20 years later they still bring it up to him!

Shit, I'll just quote myself: "Seth Rogen just grafts his generic stoner/slacker Everyslob character" ...into an alien. While someone please just assassinate him already!

Jesse Eisenberg of The Social Network definitely falls in this category. I had Josh Harnett in this category until he absolutely wowed me in the underrated "August". Orlando Bloom also comes to mind.
