The movie is Martyrs...2008 film by Pascal Laugier

Crazy movie. Reminded me of a combination of Frontier and Hostel. Not real scary, but I still liked it.

Very famous french horror movie in 2008.
I like it.
The film was categorized as a new example of new era French horror films akin to Inside with regards to the level of violence it depicts
Lucie calls Anna, who comes to the house to help her bury the bodies. Anna discovers the mother is still alive and tries to help her escape, but is discovered by Lucie who kills the woman.

I was reading a review about a Swedish film that is being redone in America. The name of it is "Let the Right One In." I would like to watch the original before I see our version. There was a question about the translation of the title. I guess it loses some of its meaning.

I watched Let the Right One In. It moves really slow, and not enough happens, but it's worth the watch. It was pretty good.

I loved it. It's a very different take on the vampire legend.

A Vampire must get permission before it can enter a dwelling - the trick is - To Let The Right One In.

Now see Innocent Blood.

Hi,
Awesome movie. Since its release at the Cannes Film Festival it has been critically acclaimed, and is managing to draw new audiences to this emerging genre. Do be warned though, this film is incredible disturbing to watch, with violent scenes that are not easily forgotten. You have been warned. This new breed of 'transgressive' French horror films is certainly making waves on an international level. Some ask whether the super violent nature of the films is too much for American audiences, whilst others argue that these films are opening new doors for creating thought and innovation in a somewhat tiring genre.

Too much for American audiences? Ha ha. That's laughable. They don't know all of us very well, do they now??

It depends on which "American audiences", I suppose. Although we've got our hard-core horror nuts, I think the general audience would look at the horror coming out of France and say that it's just too intense - bleak and brutal with violence that really seems transgressive and personal.

Of course, there may be selection bias going on - only the noteworthy stuff travels to festivals; the churned-out crap stays home. It's also tough to get a sense of how this stuff is received in its home territory; did French audiences go for La Meute or Martyrs or even Irreversible, or did they scrape to get midnight bookings at rep theaters like similar movies do in the States?

I agree, Jay. You know, what really gets me is when people come down so hard on horror movie lovers and treat us like we're so weird and abnormal, and they watch their slap-stick comedies and tear-jerkers...but have you noticed how traffic backs up on the freeway when there's been an accident? Those same "normal" people trying to get a gruesome true to life glimpse. Peeping Toms hiding in the shadows.

Makes you wonder how many people actually DO want to see more violence and gore, but just don't want their peers shaking their heads at them.

Another goody....He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

I liked the first 3 Saws, but 4 was terrible. I skipped 5 and watched 6 for just a few minutes. Enough already-- Brick wall

They are the only six-movie series with a contiguous storyline except for Star Wars and Harry Potter. I think a problem is that a character like Amanda (Jigsaw's helper from Saw) simply isn't as memorable as a Princess Leia or Hermione so it's hard for people to keep the characters straight in their minds from movie to movie.

Plus they are overly gross in spots and part 6 pandered by involving...financial problem plotlines? Really? Maybe part VII will be better....

Yet these very same people have no problem hypocritically sitting through something as ultra-violent and jingoistic as Black Hawk Down. And I remember my parents making me close my eyes during the nude scene in Caddyshack yet didn't make me do so once during Alien!

Horror is my favorite, too. But I am very disappointed at the plots and acting in horror today. They could do so much better.

Absolutely right. The main problem is that studios are only interested in catering to the late-teen market thinking they just don't care about those 2 vital things.

Still, the remake of "My Bloody Valentine" and "Sorority Row" were surprisingly good.

Totally agree, there are some mistakes in today's horror cinema.
