"Vince Vaughn dancing to country is scary. Very scary."
3 stars

I had a few reservations about renting A Cool Dry Place. Mainly, it looked like a dry movie. Nothing I'd care to watch. Especially since the blow up of Vince Vaughn lately. He's everywhere.

A Cool Dry Place turned out to be entertaining. Vince Vaughn is a lawyer raising a 5 year old after the mom has just skipped out on them for no reason. From what we can see, he's doing a good job... Until the mom comes back into the scene.

Mom, played by Monica Potter (or a Portugese Man Of War - you'll have to watch it to understand), has been away for about a year and a half when she finally pops up at the most inopportune time. Vince has a new girlfriend in the form of Joey Lauren Adams. Of course, Vaughn starts second guessing which woman he wants in his life and as to what he would like to do with his child.

Potter also has a way of making Vaughn forget that he has single handedly been taking care of his son. Vaughn starts to doubt his skill as a parental unit, which as the audience can obviously see is a crock. Then as it looks as maybe things will straighten out between the married couple, Potter ends up confiding in Vaughn about a matter that would probably be better left as is.

Regardless, the film isn't going to win any Academy Awards anytime in the near future, or ever, but it has a few funny moments but it's main useage is to pull on a couple heartstrings.
