Simple, I saw this film along with the sequel a few nights ago. Since I’ve heard of Cynthia Rothrock being a martial arts babe, well, who could resist that? I wasn’t prepared for the utter shitfest that was about to come, much less didn’t expect to have my throat all coarse due to the endless laugh bursts that I had during the entire 6 hour, two part series. China has always been the best in making martial arts flicks (especially Golden Harvest, who catapulted Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li to stardom), and then this drek came…China O’Brien (Rothrock) is a cop who accidentally killed a kid during a drug bust. So she turns her badge in and returns to live with her dad, who’s a Sheriff in a redneck yahoo town, full of bad guys. Sheriff discovers a complot within those bad guys and gets his ass blown off in a car bomb, so China “inherits” the Sheriff’s badge and goes on to find and kick ass, aided by his boyfriend Matt (Richard Norton) and a mysterious biker called Dakota (Keith Cooke).
"Girl kicking ass? Hmm, why doesn’t it work?"
First off, you can easily notice through watching this film that it was made with a piss-poor budget. Ok, that may explain most of the technical holes in this film, but the rest of the film remains unexplained, and thanks to that, it’s good enough to make fun of it.
Where to start? Oh yeah, the fighting sequences. You know after some thinking, I realize that the Chinese always leave the worst for white boys. Why I say this? Because, in the many Chinese films I’ve seen, there isn’t a single fight scene that disappoints. But Chinese/American films, they suck. The fight scenes in this film are some of the worst, the stupidiest, and the most unbelievable pieces of shit I’ve seen, AND I’VE SEEN THE MATRIX!!!! Cynthia Rothrock and his pals go on kicking white trash like they were…white trash. Keith Cooke sure gives some good kicks, but like Oz, I was also wondering why did they to show him MOST OF THE TIME in slow motion? It was annoying and laughable. I also wonder if these fucks are true martial artists, why the hell do they have to show off with some incompetent fat-ass jerks, and not other great martial artists? With such shit on the bad side, the film instantly gets predictable, no suspense, no nothing, since these people are just a bunch of redneck yahoos against “superb” martial artists. It’s guaranteed that the good side will always win with this type of shit. What a waste of celluloid, since I was expecting some good fights and I MEAN GOOD FIGHTS, FIGHTS THAT ARE WORTH SEEING, but nothing came, just the usual “taking-out-the-trash” bullshit, ugh.
The script, well, the only comment that I have is that it reads as if an 8-year-old martial arts fanatic wrote it. It is of piss-poor quality all over.
The acting was like drying paint. Rothrock can’t act, and just because she can kick ass doesn’t always mean that she can act. Richard Norton is a straightforward one-line cardboard. Keith Cooke, um, who the hell is he? I only seen him in this movie and then the sequel, but other than that, he disappeared. His footprint is not memorable, in fact, ha can’t act. In fact, in this entire piece of shit, no one acts, they just read out loud stupid one-liners, while the other character gives out more stupid one-liners, and then another character just gives out more one-liners…. Getting annoying, huh? Well that’s how this film is. Robert Clouse can know call himself a one-hit wonder, since that’s what he is. The only great film he has is Enter The Dragon, other than that, he’s bottomed out with a string of shit martial arts films, and his story got darker and darker. Too bad his life ended in the dark.In the end, don’t waste your money on this film, go see better martial arts films with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, any martial arts film with Chinese actors and has great duels between great martial artists. Anything that resembles white trash, especially most of Rothrock’s films, just skip it.
