Well what can you expect from a Pauly Shore movie?Being the story of country girl Rebecca (Carla Gugino, yes, the girl from the Bon Jovi video) whom meets her match on a rag-tag motherfucker called Crawl (Shore) whom she takes to her house and even shocks her parents when they say that they’re engaged and want to be married, it sounds pretty funny, no? Well, yes and no.
Well, you can say it is. And it sure has it’s moments, like the hilarious scenes of crawl in the farm, and also where he tries to do CPR on his girlfriend’s father’s dad, and scaring the turkey to death for thanksgiving (get it? Scare the turkey to death?). I can see that Pauly is a gifted comedian, and he succeeds in most levels, but at times he crosses the line between being funny and being stupid. The scene where he activates that huge tractor/lawnmower or whatever the fuck that big machine was simply dumb, and when he gets screwed over by the jealous ex-boyfriend of Rebecca’s, with the use of hottie Tiffany Amber-Thiessen (yes, back when she was super hot), borders on the ridiculous. The ending was actually pretty good, but again, Pauly commits the mistake of just acting stupid, which leaves you with the expression of “Was that necessary?”
The performances were all right, though at times they seemed wooden. In the end, I’d recommend this move just for the sheer entertainment and the laughs, but I’m pretty sure that with the first viewing you will have enough. Why? Because it’s a movie that only reaches the level of “entertainment” and doesn’t go any further than that. It was fun yes, but Pauly didn’t exactly set my world on fire, and furthermore, the flaws that this movie don’t help it make it memorable. It just doesn’t have the stuff to be memorable. (2.5-5)
