Omen 4: The Awakening

"The worst of the worst."
1 stars

Ten years after 'The Final Conflict' stiffed at the box office, Fox decided we needed another one. Lucky home viewers got to snooze through it for free when the Fox network aired it. Now it's on DVD and you get to pay for it.

Delia (Asia Vieira), the evil little daughter of Damien Thorn, is adopted by lawyer Faye Grant and congressman Michael Woods. The usual oddball (though softened-for-TV) deaths result, including a psychic nanny (Ann Hearn) thrown through a window, a nun-turned-hooker-turned-religious-nut (Megan Leitch) who dies by snake bite, and a detective (Michael Lerner) creamed by a wrecking ball.

Grant eventually discovers that her newborn baby is Delia's twin (it has 666 on its palm); she intends to shoot the baby and Delia but ends up blowing her own brains out, paving the way, presumably, for yet another Omen. (In fact, it wasn't until fifteen years later that another one came, and that was a remake of the original.)

One scene of carnage trimmed for TV (a freak decapitation) made it into theatrically-released foreign versions but is still absent from home-video editions. Original director Domenique Othenin-Girard (Halloween V) walked off the movie partway through production. When the director of Halloween V bugs out on a flick, you know it's bad.

An alternately boring and unintentionally funny attempt to breathe life into a very dead franchise.
