Anyone else grab it online before it disappeared?

My take: it's gonna piss a lot of people off in the right way. Solution? Who knows? But it's gonna be on the table for discussion.

Oh, and the difference between Eli "NOOOO THEY BE PIRATIN MY MOVIE" Roth and Michael "Meh, information should be shared freely" Moore is instructive.

I have been offered a *ahem* "early copy", but have not watched it yet. (I've found that Moore's movies work well in theaters, and think I'll wait to see it there.) But you're right about Moore. Didn't he pretty much ask bootleggers to share F9/11, saying as long as people saw it, who cares how?

They are good audience movies. Fahrenheit 9/11 got a standing-O at the opening-night show I went to, and someone yelled out "Get out and vote!" Or "Get out the vote!" Or maybe "Get off my coat!"

He compares it to you letting your friend borrow the DVD of F9/11. He says, "Well, I'm not getting any money from your friend watching it. But the message is getting out. And I'm doing all right. And obviously I'd like people to buy tickets, but I also want the message to get out."

There won't be much controversy; there will be (and already are) attempts to refute Moore's claims about the efficacy of NHS in England and France, but Americans won't care because we've all seen what HMOs do to people. The movie ends up saying nothing more radical than that we should be taking better care of each other.

Does that mean I should adjust the embargo setting on my review accordingly?

Fuck it, I emailed him:

Quote:
Hey Mike,

Saw "Sicko" via the Internet tubes and am planning to buy a ticket on the 29th. Here's my question:

I write for www.efilmcritic.com. I already have a (rave) review written. It's currently in limbo until the release date. But now I see there's going to be various screenings here and there leading up to the wide release on the 29th. Do you, Michael Moore, writer-director of "Sicko," say it's okay for a review of "Sicko" to run on our site early, to help get the word out?

I'll definitely understand if you're way too busy to respond. Just thought I'd go to the man himself.

Thanks,

So we'll see what he says. If he says anything.

EDIT: Fuckin' MAILER-DAEMON. I'll try again.

Dunno if that was necessary. Couldn't hurt, I suppose.

Not that it's ever gonna go through.

The film opens Friday. Reviews should go up.

And I loved the film. Let the rest drink their Haterade and pick this baby to shreds, I adore Moore and his wild ways, and I actually trust a majority of the info presented here.

I had no idea Hillary Clinton was the devil. I mean, it makes sense, but I've never seen it underlined before.

If it's actually opening in NYC on Friday and staying open -- i.e., not just one day of "sneak preview screenings" -- then yeah, Friday is the release date. It's no different from a thousand other films a year that open in NYC and/or LA before expanding to other cities later.

Uh, yeah. I embargoed it for the 29th, then took the embargo off, and now it keeps staying at the top of the reviews on the home page. Can anyone fix this? I mean, if someone glances at the list and just sees my review still on top, they're gonna think there haven't been any other new reviews.

No, but you should definitely look both ways before crossing any street on Thursday.

So they're releasing it in just 441 theaters?

Christ, that's a smaller opening than DOA got.

I would guess they're going to platform it like F9/11, which opened on 868 and then widened to 2,011.

I saw the movie Sicko last July, when it first came out in the theatres. Very good movie..well-done. Michael Moore really gave as good as he got. The fact that even some of the people on Fox News liked it and/or are talking about the film Sicko indicates just how much of an impact that it's had. It's needed, and people need to be shaken up by this.
