I'm looking forward to it, although dreading the morning coin-flip on weeks when Heroes is also new as to which gets recorded in HD and which is relegated to the old DVR. _________________ Blogs: Jay's Movie Blog, Transplanted Life, The Trading Post |

Twisted Jack line that went through my head last night, after the terrorist Jack and Dr. Bashir had been following blew himself up: "The bad news, Bill, is that we won't be able to question him; the good news is that the explosion cooked him pretty good, so I won't have to eat this one raw." _________________ Blogs: Jay's Movie Blog, Transplanted Life, The Trading Post |

JACK BAUER WILL BITE YOU TO DEATH.
It's so nice to have "24" back in my life again. It's like an alarming, terrifying balm that soothes my soul. _________________ Film reviews, "Snide Remarks," and assorted merriment: EricDSnider.com |

Did anyone else, like me, watch the first 20 minutes of the first episode and find it so fucking ri-god-damn-diculous that they couldn't take any more?
Let me get this straight: Terrorist wants to take Jack away from China, where he's being tortured, so he can torture him himself, and will sell out his comrade to arrange it. Says he wants all CTU security feeds tied into his laptop from every satellite they have, so that he can torture Jack without being captured - and they AGREE to this?
"Oh sure, here, would you like my ATM number as well?"
And then - because nobody else in the intelligence world thought of it - Sourpuss and her fat boyfriend think "Wait! We'll just use a non-CTU staellite!", but the terrorists are monitoring EVERY SATELLITE ON THE PLANET, and so they can see that PruneMouth is watching?
Come the fuck on. It's like they're not even trying anymore.
Would it have been so hard for Jack to just spend the season escaping from China, while both the Chinese AND US governments try to kill him? Think about it - if he escapes China, they'll blame the US, thus creating potential world-ending incident, which means it's world vs Jack and he's just crazy enough to become a bad guy in the process.
Huh? Huh? Who's with me?
Instead we get "US brings back Jack so he can have his nuts cut off by Ahmed, even though we know he'll escape and the terrorists only wanted him as some bizarro doublecross, and it'll all change 18 times per episode, and blah blah..." _________________

When has the plot of this show NOT been completely ludicrous, preposterous, and ridiculous? (that's a lot of ous-es).
And yet the last 20 minutes of hour 4 hooked me in. I wish somebody would murder Chloe though. Just cold blooded murder, straight up. I am so done with that bitter beer faced cooze. And the idea that not one, but 2 of her coworkers would want to sleep with her is the most ludicrous idea of all. I can swallow terrorists monitoring every sattelite in the sky before I believe THAT! _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I watched a recent interview with Kiefer, and he talked a lot about the audience and their willingness to suspend disbelief. I think you kind of have to sign on for the silly stuff for the show to continue to tackle new ground. Although, I do miss the ultra-realism of the season one ender. That was less a 'wow' moment and more of a punch in the gut. It seems less personal now. |

I also wish they hadn't jettisoned the "Jack in a Chinese prison" thing. I mean, they BROUGHT IT BACK for the end of season 5, so I think it's normal that we'd expect it to, y'know, matter.
And the president's brother becoming the president is like when they introduced "Oliver" on The Brady Bunch.

I'm with you Scott - I wanted all of season 6 to be about him escaping from Chinese prison. But that is so typical of this show - leave it on a big cliffhanger, and then come back next season and gloss over the cliffhanger to introduce a totally unrelated storyline.
And yeah, Wayne Palmer for president - fucking not! We knew David Palmer, and you sir are no David Palmer!
But Heroes is back tonight, so I'm about ready to shitcan this show anyway since my TIVO can only record/watch one show at a time. (Or I may actually re-learn to program my girlfriend's old VCR to tape 24 - shudder). _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. Another reason not to watch - the guy who produces the show will be producing a right wing 'answer to the Daily Show' variety show for... seriously... Fox News. _________________

I was just reading about autism, specifically Asperger syndrome, and I discovered Wikipedia's list of characteristics perfectly describes Chloe on "24":
1. Difficulty reading the social and emotional messages in the eyes - People with AS don't look at eyes often, and when they do, they can't read them.
2. Making literal interpretation - AS individuals have trouble interpreting colloquialisms, sarcasm, and metaphors.
3. Being considered disrespectful and rude - Prone to egocentric behavior, individuals with Asperger's miss cues and warning signs that this behavior is inappropriate.
4. Honesty and deception - Children with Asperger's are often considered "too honest" and have difficulty being deceptive, even at the expense of hurting someone's feelings.
5. Becoming aware of making social errors - As children with Asperger's mature, and become aware of their inability to connect, their fear of making a social mistake, and their self-criticism when they do so, can lead to social phobia.
6. A sense of paranoia - Because of their inability to connect, persons with Asperger's have trouble distinguishing the difference between the deliberate or accidental actions of others, which can in turn lead to a feeling of paranoia.
7. Managing conflict - Being unable to understand other points of view can lead to inflexibility and an inability to negotiate conflict resolution. Once the conflict is resolved, remorse may not be evident.
8. Awareness of hurting the feelings of others - A lack of empathy often leads to unintentionally offensive or insensitive behaviors.
9. Repairing someone's feelings - Lacking intuition about the feelings of others, people with AS have little understanding of how to console someone or how to make them feel better.
10. Recognizing signs of boredom - Inability to understand other people's interests can lead AS persons to be inattentive to others. Conversely, people with AS often fail to notice when others are uninterested.
11. Introspection and self-consciousness - Individuals with AS have difficulty understanding their own feelings or their impact on the feelings of other people.
12. Clothing and personal hygiene - People with AS tend to be less affected by peer pressure than others. As a result, they often do what is comfortable and are unconcerned about their impact on others.
13. Reciprocal love and grief - Since people with AS have difficulty emotionally, their expressions of affection and grief are often short and weak.
14. Understanding of embarrassment and faux pas - Although persons with AS have an intellectual understanding of embarrassment and faux pas, they are unable to grasp concepts on an emotional level.
15. Coping with criticism - People with AS are compelled to correct mistakes, even when they are made by someone in a position of authority, such as a teacher. For this reason, they can be unwittingly offensive.
16. Speed and quality of social processing - Because they respond through reasoning and not intuition, AS individuals tend to process social information more slowly than the norm, leading to uncomfortable pauses or delays in response. This means that although the AS individual will tend to make a more reasoned and balanced understanding and/or decision, it can lead to the AS individual being told to use their 'common sense' to solve problems, a concept they cannot understand or use in the way a neurotypical person can.
17. Exhaustion - As people with AS begin to understand theory of mind, they must make a deliberate effort to process social information. This often leads to mental exhaustion. _________________ Film reviews, "Snide Remarks," and assorted merriment: EricDSnider.com |

On a related note, I've heard rumors for years that Spielberg has AS. Another characteristic of aspies, not one on that list, is that they tend to think in images rather than words, which can be a useful trait in certain occupations.

I haven't finished watching this week's episode yet, but why the hell doesn't Bryan Spicer have John Cassar's job? He's easily the best director in 24's stable, especially at action. _________________ Blogs: Jay's Movie Blog, Transplanted Life, The Trading Post |
