I dunno. The AD producers were able to get the "18 instead of 22" houses (episodes) gag into the show pretty quickly. I suspect they'll have some real great stuff prepared for the final few episodes.

that was really top-notch. all i hope for is that they had enough time to do something really great for a final episode, but they probably didn't get enough notice. Sad

I recall reading that when the announcement came through, they'd already filmed eight of this season's episodes. That leaves five more that are being filmed now (or are about to be filmed), post-announcement. So I'm sure they'll deal with the matter appropriately....

1. Justine Bateman has just signed to guest star opposite her baby bro in a few AD episodes.

2.

Quote:
Fox benched the criminally low-rated for the duration of November sweeps, and last month cut back the season order from 22 to 13 episodes. The news came after eight shows were already in the can, leaving production just five new episodes to wrap up the Bluth family saga.

At least on Fox. Producer Brian Grazer told CNN last week that he is working feverishly to move the sitcom to another home.

"I think we'll get picked up by some other network, possibly," he said. "You never know.

"I can't tell you anything other than I'm hoping it works out in the way that we want it to. But I'm optimistic."

Yeah, but they won't be going for full-on ewwwwwwwwww like when they were going to cast her as a girlfriend in the first season (allegedly, they killed it when the rumor got out because it wouldn't be a big squicky surprise).

Pity. Although I'm still waiting for the inevitable "John and Joan Cusack cast opposite each other in romantic comedy" announcement, followed by panicked backtracking.

I don't know, I got kind of irritated by Monday's episode. One or two self-referential bits are funny, but when that's all you're doing, then there's no self to reference. Actually doing funny things is a better argument than just declaring how funny and deserving you are.

Besides, Aaron Sorkin ruined this sort of plea for everyone: You're not going to see "people who can't make money on SportsNight should get out of the money-making business" topped any time soon.

AD Update:

Fox has decided to show the last 4 episodes of the Season. They will be back to back to back to back in a 2 hour block on Friday, Feb 10th.

Yes... February.

Which, I gather, is the night of the Olympic opening ceremonies - prime burn-off time - you've got to show something, but not something that you figure will have a future.

Wouldn't it be good if AD actually beat the Olympics that night?

I know there's gonna be a good-sized Arrested Development party at my place that night.

Fuck the Curling.

I'd be highly amused. I think second place would be much more likely, but that would be mainly because the other four networks rolled over and played dead.

Hmmmm, let. me. think. A brand-new 2-hour block of AD, or the fucking Olympics?

Obviously it's no contest.

Oh, and screw you, Fox.

I'm glad Fox is showing the episodes at all. Some had feared they would be unaired and show up only on the DVDs. And of course I have TiVo, and don't watch the Olympics Opening Ceremonies anyway, unless they're taking place in the city I live in (which has only happened once so far), so the time slot doesn't matter to me so much.

It's just too bad this thread is called "more love for Arrested Development," when everything Fox has done in regards to the show in the past few months has been indicative not of love but of resentment and bitterness. For shame, Fox. For shame.

Quote:
Speaking hours before the premiere of a fifth edition of "American Idol," the No. 1 U.S. TV show last season, Fox Entertainment President Peter Liguori voiced disappointment that "Arrested Development" was headed for the chopping block.

"It's highly unlikely the show is coming back, but no definitive final answer has been made on that," Liguori told a gathering of TV critics in Pasadena. "It's regrettable we couldn't find an audience that the show deserves."

A spokesman for the network's sister studio, 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the show, said two other networks -- ABC and Showtime -- had approached producers with bids to carry the series next year.

"We are currently considering the offers on the table," the spokesman, Chris Alexander, told Reuters.

Added Liguori: "It ('Arrested Development') is a studio property, and there is interest at other networks. It's the studio's right and (the executive producer's) right to put that up to bid."

He suggested that "Arrested Development" might be an especially good fit for premium cable channel Showtime, where the comedy's current average audience of just over 4 million viewers would rank it as a major hit.

"From a numbers standpoint, if Showtime were able to migrate the numbers 'Arrested' gets on Fox to Showtime, that would be by far its No. 1 show," he said.

The quirky comedy about a dysfunctional family has been a critical favorite since its launch in 2003, but has continued to flounder in ratings. A two-hour season finale, which is expected to be the show's swan song, is slated to air February 10.

Showtime is getting serious about AD; from TV Week (registration required, but it's free right now):

"A few weeks ago, news broke that Showtime and ABC were vying for the presumably canceled Fox comedy "Arrested Development." Turns out ABC offered producers Imagine Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television a 13-episode commitment to the series, which a network spokesperson has now confirmed. Showtime, meanwhile, has offered a two-year commitment, which would likely translate to 26 episodes. Sources said producers are still mulling both offers. Meanwhile, the series continues to struggle on Fox, with its most recent episode drawing a mere 4.2 million viewers. Sources said an ABC deal, especially in the wake of the show's most recent performance, is unlikely."

If anyone wants to participate in an AD-centric chat tonight, I'll be starting one up about 15 minutes before the show.

This way we can all type things like "OMG lol" and "FUCK SHIT COCK ON A STICK do I love this show" and etc.

AIM me if you're not on my b-list and you want in: scottfromphilly

You know, I'm not glad it ended, but I'm glad it ended well. That last half-hour, especially, was hysterical.

Two hours of television don't get much better than that.
