Best finale since "Newhart"

By the way, when did Justine Bateman suddenly get so hot?

"Mock Trial with J. Reinhold" is stuck in my head right now.

MUNCH!

"George Bush hates black puppets." Brilliant.

I miss it already. But at the same time, it went 53 episodes. That's still more than The Tick, more than Andy Richter Controls The Universe, more than Sports Night.

Sigh.

Looks like the Showtime deal probably won't happen. Variety reports that series creator Mitch Hurwitz will not be a part of the show if it moves to Showtime, and friend of AD Tim Goodman also pretty much confirms that without Hurwitz, who obsessed over all of the show's minutiae, the show won't go forward.

Season Three DVD is rumored for June, BTW.

Variety wrote:
Nonetheless, Hurwitz said he put off making a final decision on his involvement so Showtime and 20th could talk about a possible deal.

"Of course, if there was enough money in it, I would have happily abandoned the fans' need for quality. But as it turns out, there wasn't," he said.

Gotta love the guy. No matter what happens, he delivered the best TV comedy ever.

As I read between the lines, I think it becomes clear that Hurwitz simply wanted more money than Showtime was willing to give.

Weak.

Hey, he's not a public utility. As much as I like the show, it's a lot of time and energy and I imagine he'd like to direct it at something that had a higher ceiling, commercially.

Not for nothing, but if he suspected that was going to be the case the whole way, he shouldn't have pushed the fans to fight fot it and get our hopes up.

Says me, anyway.

Eh, I don't know the timeframe. For all I know, he could have really wanted to save the show until getting through the writing of those last few episodes and then realized he was satisfied with how he ended it, much like it seems many of the fans feel.

Now that it's playing on CBC, I have seen that "phenomenon" for myself. A few episodes, that is -- I'm not a regular follower.

I'm afraid I don't get it. Just seems to be one of those dysfunctional-family-full-of-quirky-characters shows, a grown-up version of Malcolm in the Middle (which in itself never fails to remind me of The Wonder Years without the charm) with an irritating voice-over narration, made even more irritating by the knowledge that Ron Howard provided it.

I'm sorry, did you just equate Arrested Development with Malcolm in the Middle?

I taste burning.

Well you can call me later than Late McLate from Latetown, but I'm just now getting into this. Started watching the first 6 episodes on dvd yesterday - only 5 left now.

Frickin' hilarious.
