I was doing some research on the IMDb for my other website, when I came across this film:

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0327437

What will they think of next?

I think that's quicky gaining on the works of Alexander Dumas as "best classic novel that Hollywood has re-hashed to death"

And now they're casting Jackie Chan as Passepartout.

Sure enough, he looks like a Frenchman.

For those of you who have seen the 1956 version, I was not among those who enjoyed Cantinflas, the Mexican bullfighter, in the same part. Passepartout got too much attention in comparison to other characters. I guess from the casting of Chan that the new version is going to turn out even worse than the earlier one. All they need is to find a typical Englishman who can look English without having to say anything.

Too bad David Niven's dead.

This is bullshit. I for one am not going to see this film, unless the critics say otherwise or just simply because I want to poke fun at it.

BTW, hasn't anyone realized that Jackie Chan is starting to become more and more a major hack? That's pretty worrying don't you think?

And Alex, I did like the 1956 version, yes I know it has dated somewhat, but I still dig it as much as the first time I saw it. Cantinflas kicks ass!!!

To bad he isn't recognized that well here in the states. Confused

Yeah this one's been in the pipeline for a while now.

Sounds awful.

We watched Cantinflas all the time when I was small. My mom would take us to watch everyone that would come to the International Cinema.
I still love him.

Same here Maegs. I used to watch his films in Univision way back when I was a toddler. He was a real comedic genius. Very Happy

I was really saddened when he died back in 1993 I believe. I was in school when it happened.

I can only picture it:

Remember the magnificent scene in the original when they are shootin' peasents from their hot-air balloons with muskets? With Jackie Chan in it, he'll probably jump from the hot-air balloon and shout "I'm gonna kick your ass, bird!" in Catonese(sp?) while doing deadly kung-fu moves on it.

*shudders*

I'll probably end up seeing it anyway, as a Dirty Work piece. I was gonna do Kangaroo Jack, but I don't want that thing to taint my hard drive. Plus, I have no money to sneak into it while paying for another movie.
