House is the greatest thing on TV right now.

It's got an amazing lead-- Hugh Laurie-- Thank God he's no longer playing flighty castrated fathers like in the Stuart Little movies.

The episodes are pretty much stand alone so you don't have to worry if you missed episode 12 or not to understand what's going on.

It's a character driven show.

And it's a medical mystery show based on Sherlock Holmes. How cool is that?

You can have your Losts and Prison Breaks and 24s. Twists are starting to get old and tiresome.

The episodes are all similar... but in the same way as Sherlock Holmes stories are identical. There's a formula to them. But like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story, the devil's in the details and what's really going on. Give it a go. You'll be hooked. (Damn... I sound like a shill Confused )

I don't know if I'd go with "best show on TV', but it gives me Hugh Laurie on a weekly basis, which is a fantastic gift not to be taken for granted.

It follows a pattern, but that's not a bad thing for a TV show - there's enough weird medical conditions out there that the writers aren't likely to repeat themselves on that end, while they've got opportunity to do a lot with guest stars. Sure, it's a formula, but a surprisingly robust one.

Now, they've just got to make with some Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson guest appearances.

And Ade Edmondson. And Rik Mayall.

I have to agree that House is great, though very far from the best show on TV. That honor goes to The Office, no doubt about it.

And My Name is Earl is still making me giggle.

And although I find it completely ridiculous in every single way possible, I find myself looking forward to Numbers a little.

Which, I know, is kind of like saying you think a guy is good looking. The whole room just stops and looks, waiting for the 'just kidding'.

When Stephen Fry was mentioned, it inspired me to browse Amazon, and to my joy I found this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FI9ODQ/qid=1146360974/sr=1-5/ref=sr_1_5/102-1807628-0156102?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130

As for guest stars on House, Emma Thompson would also make a great guest star. Get all those Cambridge people together. Fry could even play Professor Trefusis, his literary alter ego.

And they could all sing "Rah Rah Rah, We're Going To Smash The Oinks."

A virtual cookie for the first one to name the ref.

Sweet. I knew that was coming in the UK, but wasn't sure about here. It's about time somebody started captializing on House's popularity and bringing stuff like that out. I'd like to see Fortysomething, for that matter. Or the unseen Dragans of New York pilot.

And it galls me that Fry's The Star's Tennis Balls seems to be impossible to find. And while it's cool to see Laurie's writing another book, having it up for pre-order now just seems to be a nasty tease.

Actually you can get The Star's Tennis Balls now. The publisher renamed it Revenge, because we Americans aren't too smart when it comes to learnin dem' fancy litererary reference-hickies.
