From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money
[AllPosters.com] Buy posters from this movie

"Grand cinema it's not."
1 stars

A movie that has all the touches of Tarantino (excessive profanity, guns, funny gore, Hawaiian shirts, and surf music), but none of the soul. Scott Spiegel tries to make up for the lack of quality sticking in a big Mexican and calling him Jesus, but, alas, the film still sucks.

Robert Rodriguez's original "From Dusk Till Dawn" picture was a lot of things, but it was never stupid. Well, maybe a little. But not like THIS--this kind of stuff is just inexcusable.

The first one had Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Juliette Lewis, and QT himself in lead roles; they all did good jobs, and made their chartacters fun. "Texas Blood Money" has Robert Patrick, drawling, guzzling beer, and generally looking like he wishes they'd get around to making "Terminator 3" already.

In other words, the cast is bad. Crap can become watchable when the filmmakers go to the trouble of employing good actors--I've seen it happen many a time. The script is shit and the director's a hack, but the cast is absolutely lovely.

The motley gang of buttplugs that gather 'round for "Texas Blood Money" are a far cry from lovely; they're halfway across the world, shooting and swearing in a different time zone. I don't know their names, and I don't want to; I hope they all go to hell.

Furthermore, I hope that when they get there, the devil forcefeeds them fire.

The direction is aimless and redundant at best. Spiegel crams in every single "quirky" shot that he could find in "Directing for Dummies," and then made a few up himself (check out the groovy batcam). He tries to hide his lack of skill, but the audience is smart--he apes "Evil Dead" to cover up this lameass attempt at a narrative, and we scream for his demise all the while.

What more can be said? This is shit, plain and simple.
