Sixth Sense, The |

"What's the big deal? Alot, actually."

The Sixth Sense evokes a kind of chill fear that is rarely experienced when watching a movie. You have shock value and things jumping out from dark corners, but rarely fear. That's why I wanted to see it. And that's why I will see it again. When I started to watch The Sixth Sense in the theatre, I realized that I was sitting to close to the screen and I suddenly felt a sharp pain behind my eyes. Plus, that person behind me, who always seems to be there, was having a problem opening their milk duds. They spent a good 5 minutes trying to rip that damn box open, snorting and making stange noises all the while. Then, the credits were over and I completely forgot about that. I had a vague idea of what to expect, as would anyone who had been coherent for any extended period of time in the last 6 months or so. And, much to my dismay, within 10 minutes of the credits I found that I had a strong idea of what was going to happen. But strangely enough, none of this even brought the experience down a notch, and I found myself shivering and jumping at every opportunity. Bruce Willis can't act. That's what's always been said, right? Well, damn if he doesn't make a pretty good job of it here. As Malcolm, a child psychologist, he brings depth and reality (gasp!) to the character. But he's really not the star of the show, if you base it on talent. Haley Joel Osment. Damn. That kid scared the crap out of me AND managed to nearly move me to tears(other people in the theatre were sobbing. I guess I'm just a hardass). I know, it's been said before, and it will probably be said again, but Cole Sear is one of the most memorable characters of the year, and it's because of Osment. I hope he gets a nomination for it. I would really like to see that, because skilled child actors are all too rare.I'm not going to mention the plot, because just about anything I say is too much. If you want to know what happens, you will really have to watch, because words probably can't do it justice.
