Damn. The Fifth Element is basically what it sets out to be. An action film, with lots of explosions and one sided evil villians. But what I personally wasn't expecting was the visual artistry that it's accomplished with.

First off, I'd like to remind Luc Besson that orange and blue don't really match. His unhealthy obsession with them quite intrigued me. Especially since he seemed to make all of the individual props and scenes contain the same exact two shades.
I'm cool with it though, because it just adds to what I hope was supposed to be a really odd movie. It gives it kind of a technicolor feel, which goes along with it's formulaic explosions and evil evil bad guys perfectly.
The plot is something of a mystery to me, but only because I don't know what kind of person you would have to be to invent a gelatinous opera singer, a villian with a slicked down mohawk and a texan accent, and a radio talk show host who while reminding me of prince, shattered any hopes for my local DJ's state of normalcy.
It's all melodramatic and overdone, but in the end you don't feel like you've been cheated in the least.

Besides, it's an age old concept. Boy is a taxicab driver who has to save the world with the help of Girl who is really an entity vital to the future of the entire universe and who wears very little clothes. What could be better than that?
