"I would like to have seen the play"
3 stars

I would like to have seen it because the movie boredered on boring the entire time. Some plays just don't translate, I suppose, and this brings that to a new height. Not translating, I mean.

Glengarry Glen Ross (Pronounced glenGARRY glen ROSS, for those of you who didn't know and felt like having it shoved down your throat) is a movie based on a play about what I assume to be Real Estate Agents. At least they seemed like it sometimes, when they weren't screwing people up the ass. Anyway, there are these 'leads', which are the people each agent is assigned to screw. Now, these leads are really old, and half the people on them are, quite honestly, off their rockers, so if a sale is made you can pretty much bet that it won't stick (gotta love the 3-day cooling off period). The office manager (played by Kevin Spacey) brings in a tight ass pep talker (played by Alec Baldwin. Needless to say the character was stiff and translucent) to inform everyone of a contest to see who can make the most sales on the current leads. The winner receives a very expensive car, and second place gets a fabulous set of steak knives costing approximately $1.00. Oh, and did I mention the losers get fired? That was just too much tension for me, I've got to tell you.
For all its shortcomings, though, Glengarry Glen Ross tries extremely hard to make itself worth watching. This attempt is aided by the fantastic acting peppered throughout (I say peppered because for every Kevin Spacey there's an Alec Baldwin.)
By far, the best performance of the movie is given by Al Pacino, who plays the only successful salesman in the place. Before this, I was not a fan of Mr. Pacino's, and I offer that with the greatest respect possible. He is a spectacular actor (as shown in a very small way here), but I had always been rather terrified of him due to his performance in the movie "The Devil's Advocate". I am beyond that now, and hope to see more of his films.

So if nothing else, watch this movie for the performances. If you really think about it though, there is nothing else to watch it for.
