I like action movies. I like Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. That doesn't mean I like this movie. Granted, some of the effects are very cool, and the acting is impressive for such a mediocre movie.Nicolas Cage is a bad guy. John Travolta is a good guy. They really dislike each other. Easy enough, right? Now, throw in that Nicolas Cage killed John Travolta's son. Will he catch him? Of course. That's no surprise. It's not even really a plot spoiler. You know it's going to happen. You know everything that's going to happen. Until Nicolas Cage is on a coma and John Travolta takes his face to infiltrate the bad guys' gang and ultimately save the entire city from the wrath of a big bad bomb, that is. Then it not only gets unpredictable, but really implausible. I'm not saying that it's impossible to swtch faces, voices and identities with your archenemy while they are lying senseless. I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying that the way it is all presented didn't leave me with any thoughts other than "eww. that's so icky." The performances make it watchable. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage as each other is realy something to watch, if you can bear the rest. Dominique Swain as a girl who is going to need some serious therapy later in life is pretty cool, too. But the only thing I actually enjoyed about the movie was it's special effects. I enjoy watching things get blown up. That happens here, along with lots of gunfire and a bunch of really angry people becoming destructive.I guess it just goes to show that if you have a weak plot and a poor script, just break stuff and it'll all be ok.
