Cut (2000)

"Painful. Close to the worst film ever. And I mean that."
1 stars

Remember that film about two years ago? I STILL Know What You Did Last Summer? Remember just how pitifully awful it was? I mean, the first was no masterpiece, then they went along and churned out that absolute piece of rat-infested junkyard rubbish. Compared to Cut, though? Two words: Citizen Kane.

We've all heard the saying "seen it all before", haven't we?

In fact, most people who have seen Cut will agree that this is the best way to describe it. "Seen it all before, a million times." These people are wrong. Because, even though it may be thought that this is a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of Scream, no slasher films released since that masterpiece have been anywhere near as bad as Cut.

And that includes Urban Legend and Jawbreaker.

Cut would have to be one of the most stupid ideas for a horror film of all time. On paper, it doesn't read so bad. Watch the damned piece of messed-up fucking shit, though, and you will be absolutely staggered by the conclusion and the identity of the killer.

Cut starts off bad. Kylie Minogue (in one of the worst acting roles you'll ever see) plays a film director who calls "Cut" one too many times. The main villain of her film-in-progress, "Hot Blooded," turns out to be a psychotic maniac. He is pissed off that she criticises his acting, so he kills her. (You might as well leave the cinema by now, because killing off 'the singing budgie' - who is more like 'the dying crow' in Cut - is about the best thing this film has to offer). Molly Ringwald then kills the villain in real life, with a burst of lightning-like electicity accompanying his death - we learn more about this later. As I said though, the beginning is still bad. It gets worse.

Some years later, some film students decide to try and finish off the film. This is met with some reluctance by a few members of the film crew, because everytime somebody tries to finish off the film, they die. Ooh, sounds real scary, doesn't it?

Suddenly, the crew members start to die. And, yes, you've seen every killing thousands of times before, in better more intelligent films. Of course, the killer has a mask so that his identity remains a mystery to the characters and the audience. And while the characters may be scared, the 7 other people at the Friday night screening of Cut that I attended merely laughed at the identity of the killer. In fact, the revealing of the masked maniac is so diabollically funny, I almost choked to death on popcorn.

I haven't even mentioned the monstrously poor acting by the young cast - and Molly Ringwald is the main offender.

There are also the obligatory Nightmare on Elm Street, Wes Craven and Dirk Diggler jokes that just made this reviewer CCCRRRIIINNNGGGEEE.

Anybody giving this more than one star saw a different film, and has reviewed the wrong movie by mistake.
