Bridget Jones's Diary |
by Nuwanda
"My life on film...Great..."

I could relate to this movie so easily, it was like downing a bottle of wine and smoking a pack of cigarettes. Far too simple. However, I don't think that you have to be a single, slightly-overweight, drunken, fag smoking, piss ant, to like this movie. It helps, but it's not necessary. There's great stuff in it for everyone to relate to.I'll tell it to you in short and Bridgette-style, how I came to the movie;
2 hours sleep Oversmoked lungs (2 packs, the day before) Hungover (15 units of Jamaican rum) Man troubled (just one guy in question)
Now, if that isn't a great beginning to a beautiful friendship between myself and 'Bridgette Jones', I don't know what is.
I was scared that I was going to pay $7.00 for a nap, and if it hadn't been for great dialogue, good acting, and a basically good story, I might have.
It was both relief and night-marish to look up on this huge screen and see Renee Zellweger playing me. On the one hand, I was so happy to get reminded that I'm not the only loser...but then it was also the reminder that I was, in fact, a loser. Hmmmm...
Nevertheless, "Bridgette Jones Diary" is a great film plenty of laughs, and a good enough story that you don't have to be someone like me to like it. In fact, I think I would go as far to say that men might enjoy it as well.
I don't think that I need to take you through the whole film. It's a pretty basic story line, with few surprises. If you're looking for a film to change your life, or make you think, steer clear. But, if you are in the mood for something to make you chuckle, see it.
I've heard that Zellweger has been critisized to hell and gone for her 'brutal' British accent. Well, I'm not a linguistics expert, nor British, so I can't really say. I do think, however, that if it had been that horrible, I probably would have noticed. It's probably more the case that the critics couldn't find anything more substantially bad to say about the film, so they jumped on that.The only reason I'm not giving 'Bridgette Jones' five stars is because I probably would never watch it again. It was good for the time, money well spent, but that's it. It didn't really leave any long-lasting impressions on me, with the exception of a few post-movie snickers.
